Barely heroic.
For any of you still relying on the XML feed, the blog itself is broken whilst I figure out something. I need a password that no one's getting back to me about. This feels so ghetto.
rfg #57 - Le temps detruit tout [76.1 Mb, 83:07]
As implied at the beginning of the broadcast, my show was shortened slightly due to the wonderful Julie Doiron live performance [88.4 Mb, 96ish minutes] that aired. (Here's more about Julie Doiron if you're familiar with her post-Eric's Trip output.) Doiron along with Fred Squires charmed everyone at the station and I would imagine that those people who listened loved their performance too. Towards the end of her time, there were plenty of jokes about preventing me from going on air, to which I encouraged.
I got on air around 7:40pm Pacific, so this show is about 10 minutes shorter than the usual podcast, which oddly enough featured longer songs. A great deal of the profile on the soundtrack to Irréversible were actually faded out since house music tends to use really subtle dynamic changes, so you probably didn't miss much. The Canadian content requirements were wedged in subtlely, though I did try to locate some Quebec house music and failed horribly.
This theme show went quite well and there were a handful of folks still left during the takedown to listen in. The Perrey track I played solicited a futile search to figure out what TV show or film used E.V.A. for (and as Luke Meat indicated, the Futurama theme is based on Pierre Henry's "Psyché Rock"). If you know, email me.
However, I was pleased as punch that I finally got to spin Pépé Bradock's "Deep Burnt" on the show, since that beautiful song has been haunting me since I first heard it a few months ago on Radio Nova, one of the very fine French radio stations. Using the intro to Freddie Hubbard's "Little Sunflower", Deep Burnt floats away on a simple four note hook. One of the other DJ's who focuses on house music raves as highly as I do about that number and I'd love to find more music like that.
I wish I had more time to focus on other artists like Dimitri from Paris, Alex Gopher, Mr. Oizo and Mirwais – who was a last minute drop due to time – but as with most things, sometimes a taste is all you need.
